Rendition of Dougla
This was one of the dance #'s from a Black History Presentation entitled Voices; Past, Present & Future. This piece was my rendition for my students which was inspired by The Dance Theatre of Harlem when we were invited to see a dress rehearsal of the piece.
Proof of Concept Video
Behind The Stars...The Untold Stories of Black Industry Dancers is a Proof of Concept Trailer of an Episodic Anthology Docu-Series about the careers of Black Dancers in the entertainment industry from the Baby-Boomer Generation. These dancers have worked on Broadway, in Television, and Film, appeared in Videos, Commercials, and worked with R&B Artists and Toured with A-List talent. Many have gone on and we honor them at the end of trailer. In 2023 when I was dealing with a Breast Cancer Diagnosis God gave me the docu-series idea. I know that was to keep me in creative mode so that my current health situation would not take me down emotionally. It worked, and I came through being Cancer free in October of that year by the Grace of God! This trailer is a compilation of the videos that I created, produced, and edited in my home during that time. With Critical Race Theory on the rise and the denial of the truth about my culture, ethnicity, and history, I wanted to create a platform and a topic of discussion that brings awareness to the history of these spectacular black dancers. The struggle was real with the race card always being played, but we were determined to make it to our promised land. Auditions were cattle calls back then, and the term “token dancer” was familiar amongst black dancers on the Broadway stages which was known as The Great White Way. Despite not having advocacy and Black Lives Matter back then we pressed forth and persevered. From dancers to choreographers, actors, singers, writers, directors, producers, artist', designers, teachers, mentors, business owners, and entrepreneurs, we are still here and reinventing ourselves today. Our background of Dance is History, its Black History, which is American History.
